SAGE Publications institute the Best Article award in memory of Professor Rob Potter Prof Rob Potter was the founding Editor-in-Chief of Progress in Development Studies, a flagship journal of SAGE. Prof Potter was trained in Geography at the University of London and was professor emeritus at the University of Reading. A distinguished academic expert on urban geography and the geographies of development, his contributions are unparalleled to any. Recalling his association with Prof Potter, the current editor-in chief, Prabir Bhattacharya said “Rob Potter, the founding editor ofProgress in Development Studies (PDJ), was a talented human geographer, an innovative field researcher, a pioneer in the interdisciplinary field of development studies and an understanding and approachable educator and mentor. The goals underpinning Rob's ethical, educational and practical positions were the improvement of less fortunate people's lives, particularly in developing countries, and promoting meaningful, participatory and sustainable development. His published works stand as a testament to these positions. In his editorship of PDJ, he advocated the need for increasingly diverse submissions from different perspectives and sought to widen the sphere of authorship from the Global North and the Global South. The field of development studies owes a great deal to him and it is in his memory that the Rob Potter Prize will be awarded each year for the best article published in PDJ in that year. The selection process for the best article will be at the discretion of the editorial board. Out of the ten nominations submitted, the winning article will be selected by the journal Editor. The award carries a cash prize of $200 and the winning article will be published in the forthcoming issue of PDJ due to be published in January 2015. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Vivek Mehra, MD & CEO, SAGE Publications India said “SAGE is glad to support this award which I believe is a perfect tribute to a scholar of Prof Potter’s stature.
